The protagonist of Reijo Mäki's detective novels is Jussi Vares, a private eye who enjoys his beer, appreciates a pretty pair of legs when he sees one, and occasionally chases criminals, unarmed. The adaptation of the novel "Yellow Widow" sees Vares, struggling with mid-life crisis, become enchanted by attractive teacher Eeva Sunila whom he meets in military training camp. Financially challenged beauty falls into mob-crowd with blindly helping her incarcerated fiancé, petty criminal Antero Kraft. Also chasing the stolen millions are ruthless business-shark Miesmann from Helsinki, not so clean police sergeant Mikko Koitere, femme fatale Ifigenia, simple-minded pizza boy Jarmo, and a clever pair from the Finnish underworld, Tetsuo Sinkkonen and Munck.
In this modern film noir, the combination of deceit, passion and violence escalates into intense action in never ending rain that flows into the blood in ever-present death.
