Ballet of the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow

Ballet company Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow broadcasts in the cinemas Coca-Cola Plaza (Tallinn), Ekraan (Tartu) and Centrum (Viljandi).

The Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow, established in 1776, is a symbol of Russian culture and traditions, with the level of their performances satisfying even the most demanding audiences. The repertoire of the ballet company comprises national classics as well as world-famous choreographers’ excellent interpretations of pieces from the global repository of classic ballet performances.

Cooperation between the theatre and the company
Pathé Live, which offers satellite transmissions of events, will bring live broadcasts from the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow to approximately 300 cinemas in 22 different countries. The video will be transmitted keeping in mind the wide screens of cinemas; the sound will reach the cinema audiences in the 5.1 format, and at least 10 different cameras will be used.

In Estonia, it will be possible to enjoy the ballet transmissions in the Coca-Cola Plaza, cinema Ekraan and in cinema Centrum.

This season presents the greatest classics for a cinema exclusive experience featuring the Bolshoi principals and corps de ballet.

Four classical ballets (La Sylphide, Don Quixote, La Bayadère and The sleeping Beauty) will be presented along with the beloved Christmas tale The Nutcracker and the jazzy ballet The Golden Age, that can be seen only at the Bolshoi. Carmen Suite-Petruska, Edward Clug’s new creation will close the season, with two very populare caracters. 

The Bolshoi remains the unshakable reference of ballet today.

Carmen is as passionate and free-spirited as ever as she finds herself caught in a love triangle.

The passionate one act ballet by Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso originally conceived for legendary Bolshoi prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya will captivate audiences alongside Petrushka, a new creation for the Bolshoi by contemporary choreographer Edward Clug, in an evening encapsulating the soul of Russian Ballet.

The temple dancer Nikiya and the warrior Solor fall deeply in love, giving way to heated passions, and murderous intrigues when the Rajah and his daughter Gamzatti discover their forbidden love.

A resplendent fairytale ballet perfomed by the Bolshoi, The Sleeping Beauty features  scores of magical characters including fairies, the Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, and a beautiful young Princess Aurora performed by Olga Smirnova, a “truly extraordinary talent” (The Telegraph). This is classical ballet at its finest.

With its jazzy score by Shostakovich and its music-hall atmosphere featuring beautiful tangos, The Golden Age is a refreshing and colorful dive into the roaring 20’s. A historic ballet that can be seen only at the Bolshoi!
