How much fun can you really have if you obey all the rules your whole life? Four childhood friends quickly get punked by the cool kids. Flash forward to the end of high school and we find out that their social standing hasn’t changed at all. They haven’t been invited to a single graduation party. They realize that they gave up cool for college. Andy (Nicholas Braun: The Perks of Being a Wallflower) feels like he missed out on the classic high school experience.
Summer time after graduation Andy is now a tennis instructor at a high-end Cape Cod Country Club. He falls under his mentor Jaco (Demian Bichir: The Heat, A Better Life) who’s been providing “private lessons,” to all the wives of the club members. Meeting the rest of the social misfits Nora (Zoey Deutch: Vampire Academy) is now a biologist, The Lion (Matteo Arias: Kickin’ It) is a martial arts instructor for children, and Spice (Israel Broussard, Bling Ring) is an aspiring Chef. Together they realize this summer is their last chance; they make it the summer of “yes,” and agree to do all the things they missed out on in high school.
Fueled by their new outlook on life and their summer time goals our heroes embark on the adventure of their last months together. The Lion gets the group invited to a beach party and the fun begins. They all have their first sip of alcohol, their first taste of drugs, and some long overdue attention from the opposite sex. Andy’s tennis lessons start to heat up when Gabby (Ashley Judd: Divergent) requests private lessons. Andy becomes the hot new toy around the club and soon all the wives are signing up for one-on- one sessions with him. Meanwhile, Nora has begun a relationship with her co-worker, and the Lion is getting his hands on every drug he desires. Spice is the only one so far whose summer isn’t going as hoped. This group of friends realizes what many people discover in real life, the party lifestyle is unfulfilling and unsustainable. Their shallow goals quickly become their downfall and tears at their very friendship.
You can’t shove a whole life’s worth of missed experiences into one summer. The group quickly feels their new found joy turning into a nightmare. Andy is essentially a male prostitute, Nora finds out her new boyfriend is cheating on her, The Lion could now be called The Drug addict and Spice still hasn’t even gotten laid…
