Puccini’s melodramatic masterpiece TOSCA is based on a tragic story of human passions, by which the composer intended to offer the audience titillation and dramatic theatre. Puccini also wrote a brilliant musical role for his main character, which has been performed by many famous sopranos throughout the years.
The central storyline of the opera tells a story of three people – a famous opera singer, a freethinking artist and a sadist police chief, who are connected by a maze of political games and love. In the Metropolitan Opera staging, Puccini’s timeless opera is performed by an amazing cast – the jealous diva is played by Patricia Racette; Roberto Alagna performs the role of her beloved Cavaradossi and George Gagnidze takes the stage as the brutal Scarpia.
TOSCA is brought to the audience in cooperation with the Metropolitan Opera, the Bavarian State Opera and the La Scala Opera House.
